Classic Car Buying Tips

We've come up with a list of 8 things you should consider before buying a classic car. After all, it is a major purchase and one that's very different from buying a new vehicle off the lot. Most classic cars, when properly restored, are worth more than newer cars.

1. These cars are old and out of production, which means they are rarely 100% perfect and it could be costly and difficult to find repair parts.

2. Are you looking at this car as an investment or a hobby? It's usually best to view your purchase as a hobby because the chances of cashing in big are slim. However, because classic cars are harder to find, they have a higher resale value than newer cars.

3. Will you want to cruise down the open road or trailer your car every where? If you take it on the road, you risk damaging its value. If you trailer it, you miss the true joy of ownership.

4. If you're driven by nostalgia and view owning a classic car as a hobby, be sure to buy a vehicle that speaks to your personality and taste.

5. If a car has a lot of rust damage, it will be difficult to restore to classic condition. If you are ok with a rust bubble or two, then it should not be a problem.

6. Ask a lot of questions. While we do our best to describe and photograph the condition of our vehicles, we encourage you to call us with a list of specific questions.

7. When you buy a classic car, it's usually sold as is and the purchase is at the buyer's risk. Therefore, it's always best to inspect the car in person or have an inspection service do it for you should the vehicle be located far away.

8. In terms of insurance coverage, you should have the vehicle appraised before seeking out a quote. You want to make sure you have the right amount of coverage for your needs. Also remember that insurance rates for classic cars can be cheaper than newer cars but that is only when you opt not to drive your classic a lot.
